Connor McDavid Leads NHL With 36 Points as Canadiens Chase Fifth Straight Win

Connor McDavid leads the NHL with 36 points in 13 games, and he has set a new league record to start the season. The Edmonton Oilers captain has an assist in all 13 games, the longest season-opening assist streak in NHL history.

McDavid has 8 goals and 28 assists so far. He broke the old record with two assists in Edmonton’s 4-0 win over the Calgary Flames on Wednesday.

McDavid’s record start

McDavid’s 13-game assist streak passed the 12-game mark shared by Wayne Gretzky, Ken Linseman and Sebastian Aho. He already holds the NHL record for most assists in October. He needs a four-point game on Saturday to tie Mario Lemieux’s record of 38 points in one month, set in 1988.

Edmonton (9-2-2) face the New York Islanders on Saturday. The Oilers are building on a team-record five-game road winning streak to start a season.

Canadiens chase five in a row

The Montreal Canadiens (8-3-2) go for their fifth straight win when they face Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins at Bell Centre (7 p.m. ET). Montreal have won without captain Nick Suzuki, who is expected to miss his fifth straight game with an upper-body injury.

Nine Montreal players have scored at least one goal during the winning run. Goalie Jacob Fowler has been superb, with a 1.54 goals-against average and a .942 save percentage this season.

Crosby closes in on Housley

Sidney Crosby needs one power-play point to tie Hall of Fame defenceman Phil Housley for 10th most in NHL history, with 612. Pittsburgh (5-6-2) have points in three straight games.

Devils beat Vegas 5-2

The New Jersey Devils beat the Vegas Golden Knights 5-2 on Friday in Las Vegas. Arseny Gritsyuk and Jack Hughes scored twice each, and Luke Hughes also scored. Goalie Connor Hellebuyck made 19 saves for his second straight win since joining the Devils.

It is a big weekend for sport, with Andrew Novak Shoots Record 61 to Lead Mexico Open by Three Shots also on the schedule.
