Rogers breaks the deadlock

Chelsea scored the first goal five minutes after half-time. Romeo Lavia won the ball in midfield and set Rogers free. Rogers ran through the middle of the United defence and finished past goalkeeper Senne Lammens. It was a calm finish, and it gave Chelsea a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute.

The goal changed the game. United had looked the stronger side in the first half. After going behind, they had to chase the match, and Chelsea grew in confidence.

Martinez sent off as Palmer scores from the spot

Manchester United’s task became much harder in the 63rd minute. Lisandro Martinez was sent off after a second yellow card. The referee gave the decision after a VAR review. Martinez had raised his arm into the face of Wesley Fofana at a Chelsea corner, and a penalty was also given.

Cole Palmer stepped up to take the spot-kick. He scored in the 64th minute to make it 2-0. The goal gave Chelsea a firm grip on the match against ten-man United.

United miss chances as Chelsea hold on

United had chances to score in the first half. Bruno Fernandes, Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo all missed good openings. Those misses proved costly once Chelsea scored twice.

Estevao thought he had made it 3-0 late on, but his goal was ruled out for offside after another VAR check. Chelsea still held on for a clean sheet. The 2-0 win is a big result for Chelsea at home, while United leave Stamford Bridge with nothing.
