Anthropic has launched Claude Haiku 5.5. It is the third model in the Claude 5.5 family released in the past month. The company is expanding its line-up ahead of a planned stock market listing.

Small models like Haiku are important because they run fast and cost little. A company answering thousands of customer chats a day needs a model that is cheap per message. Haiku 5.5 is built exactly for that kind of work. Speed matters here too, because customers do not like waiting for slow replies.

Haiku 5.5 is built for everyday jobs such as sorting messages, writing summaries and pulling facts from documents. It is designed for live customer support, voice assistants and in-app helpers.

Low price, fast speed

The new model costs 75 percent less than its predecessor. It is priced at 10 cents per million input tokens and 50 cents per million output tokens for shorter prompts. Longer prompts cost more.

Anthropic says it is the company’s first Haiku model with built-in safety checks for a small set of risky cybersecurity requests. Most everyday tasks will not be affected.

Part of a busy month

October has been one of the busiest months for AI launches in years. Google, Meta and others have all released new models within days of each other. Small, cheap models like Haiku are becoming a key battleground.

Businesses like these models because they are fast and affordable for high-volume tasks. Anthropic hopes Haiku 5.5 will win over developers building customer-facing tools.
