Dengue cases are rising in Rawalpindi. The District Health Authority has confirmed 53 cases this season, up from 40 on October 5. No deaths have been reported so far, and 14 patients are in hospital.

Big screening drive under way

Officials have screened more than 5,400 people this year. About 5,000 suspected cases were found. Field teams discovered mosquito larvae at nearly 218,000 locations across the city.

To control the spread, authorities have registered 2,798 cases against violators. They have sealed 686 premises and collected over Rs 3 million in fines. Other cities are also on alert. In Faisalabad, officials met this week to review dengue hotspots.

How to protect your family

Health experts say the simplest step is to remove standing water. Empty buckets, tyres, flower pots and coolers every few days. Cover water tanks and use mosquito repellent, especially in the morning and evening.

District officials say the peak dengue season usually runs from September to November. They have asked all departments to stay active during this period. Special teams are visiting markets, workshops and construction sites where water collects.

Residents can also help by reporting stagnant water to the local health office. Early reporting allows teams to spray and clean the area quickly. Health workers say community support is the strongest weapon against dengue.

Doctors advise that anyone with high fever, severe headache or pain behind the eyes should get tested quickly. They also warn against taking aspirin or ibuprofen without a doctor’s advice when dengue is suspected.
