India women start a new chapter on October 16. They host Zimbabwe in a three-match T20I series in Raipur. It is the first time the two sides have met in a T20 international.

Smriti Mandhana will lead the team as full-time captain for the first time. The star opener takes over the role permanently. All three matches will be played at the same stadium.

A New Leader

Former captain Harmanpreet Kaur will now play as a regular team member. She has not played without the captain’s armband since 2016. Her experience will still be vital for the young squad.

The selectors have made four changes to the Asian Games gold medal squad. New faces have been given a chance to impress. Team officials said the focus is on building for future tournaments.

Zimbabwe’s Challenge

Zimbabwe will be led by Josephine Nkomo. They recently earned their first-ever win over the West Indies in an ODI. They lost the T20 series 3-0 on that tour.

Matches start at 7pm local time. Fans in India can watch on television and streaming platforms. The series is a big step for women’s cricket in both countries, according to officials.

The series marks a fresh start for the Indian women’s team. The gold medal at the Asian Games showed the squad’s growing strength. Now the focus shifts to the shortest format.

Zimbabwe have improved steadily in recent years. Their first ODI win over the West Indies was a landmark moment. They will be keen to test themselves against one of the world’s best sides.
