Pak-Afghan Forces Exchange Heavy Fire in Upper Kurram

Pakistani and Afghan forces exchanged heavy fire in the Taidah sector of Upper Kurram on Saturday, security sources said.

According to the sources, Afghan Taliban fighters opened fire on Pakistani positions first. The Pakistan Army responded with heavy weapons, destroying several Afghan posts across the border.

The exchange of fire continued for several hours. There was no immediate official word on casualties on either side.

Upper Kurram sits along Pakistan’s northwestern border with Afghanistan. The area has seen repeated cross-border incidents in recent years.

Pakistan has long accused the Afghan Taliban of allowing militant groups to use Afghan soil for attacks inside Pakistan — a charge Kabul denies. Border security remains one of the most sensitive issues between the two neighbours.

Officials say Pakistani troops remain on high alert along the border. Further details are awaited.
