Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered financial support for people affected by the country’s monsoon flooding. Compensation is planned for families of those killed and for owners of homes damaged by the rains, the Prime Minister’s Office said. The prime minister issued the orders at a high-level meeting on the impact of Monsoon 2026 in Islamabad.
At the meeting, the prime minister directed federal and provincial authorities to speed up relief and recovery operations. He said no affected family should be left without help. Federal ministers and secretaries have been told to travel to flood-hit regions, assess the damage on the ground and personally supervise the work.
Relief on the Move
Officials told the meeting that 615 tons of relief supplies had already been sent to affected areas. The supplies include food packs, clean drinking water, tents and medicines. More supplies are being dispatched as district officials report fresh needs from the field.
People displaced by the floods have been moved to safer locations and relief camps. Rescue teams used boats to reach villages cut off by floodwater. Charities and welfare groups are also running food kitchens in the worst-hit districts, officials said.
Restoration Underway
Restoration work is underway in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, according to the briefing. The government is repairing damaged roads, bridges and electricity lines so normal life can return faster.
Officials said an early warning system in the northern areas helped move many residents to safety before the floods arrived. The National Disaster Management Authority and provincial bodies remain on alert for more rain. The prime minister asked for daily progress reports until the recovery work is complete.
