The PTI has ended its boycott of the National Assembly and returned to the house. The decision was announced by the party’s parliamentary leader on October 16. PTI members attended the session the same day.
The party had been boycotting sessions for three weeks. It was protesting the detention of its workers and the KP emergency. Party leaders said they would now fight inside parliament.
Why the boycott ended
Insiders said the party felt the boycott was hurting its own cause. They said empty seats let the government pass laws without a fight. The party chief agreed that a strong opposition voice was needed in the house.
The parliamentary leader said the PTI would raise every public issue. He said the party would not let the government hide behind an empty opposition.
Government welcomes move
The speaker welcomed the PTI members back. He said the house was complete with the opposition present. The law minister said the government was ready for a healthy debate.
Observers called it a smart move by the PTI. They said the party could now block or delay laws it opposed. But they warned that the return could also lead to more clashes in the house.
