The Balochistan cabinet has been expanded with the oath of five new ministers. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Governor House in Quetta on October 16. The governor administered the oath.
The new ministers belong to the PPP, PML-N and Balochistan Awami Party. Officials said the expansion was needed to speed up development work in the province.
Portfolios announced
The chief minister announced the portfolios after the ceremony. The new ministers will handle education, health, irrigation, mines and local government. Two advisers were also appointed.
The chief minister said his team was now complete. He asked the new ministers to visit their districts every week. He said the people of Balochistan deserved better services.
Opposition’s reaction
The opposition in the Balochistan Assembly criticised the move. It said the cabinet was already too large for a poor province. The opposition leader asked how the government would pay for the new offices.
The chief minister’s spokesman replied that the expansion would not increase costs. He said the new ministers would use existing offices and staff.
