Pakistan and Canada have opened the third round of talks on a bilateral investment treaty.

The talks run from 19 to 21 October. Officials from both countries are taking part.

Jamil Ahmad Qureshi, the secretary of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), leads the Pakistani side.

Canada’s high commissioner to Pakistan, Tarik Ali Khan, is also taking part in the discussions.

A bilateral investment treaty sets clear rules to protect investors from both countries. It gives businesses more confidence to invest across borders.

Pakistan is looking for more foreign investment. Minerals, energy and agriculture are among its top sectors.

The SIFC was set up to make it easier and faster for foreign investors to start projects in Pakistan.

No final agreement has been announced yet. Both sides are expected to continue the talks after this round.
