Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves have reached $21.5 billion. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) shared this update in a statement on Saturday.
What makes this special is how the reserves were rebuilt. Pakistan did not take new loans to build them up. The growth came from better exports, higher remittances, and careful management.
SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad said the central bank is focused on keeping the economy stable. He added that Pakistan’s GDP growth is expected at 3.7 per cent this year.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has also reached a staff-level agreement with Pakistan. This covers both the Extended Fund Facility and the Resilience and Sustainability Facility.
Stronger reserves mean Pakistan can better handle its import bills and debt payments. Economists say this is a positive sign for the country’s financial health.
